Wasps hibernate during the winter, and as it gets warmer they love to set up homes in the siding of homes or in the eves. There are a number of ways to decrease your chances of having wasps around your home, though it doesn't guarantee they will not be there.
Wasps: Wasps have black bodies with yellow or orange markings. They have two sets of wings, a narrow waist, and long, thin legs. They have less hair on the body than the typical bee. Wasps range in size, though they are typically between 1/4 inch and 1 inch. They have chewing mouthparts and prey on insects.
Bees: Bees are typically plumper with a fuzzy body, often golden or black. They are essential pollinators and usually non-aggressive unless provoked.
When you begin to see wasps around your property it is important you call a pest service to take care of it. Wasps do not typically burrow, but they will find cracks or holes in the siding of your home and make nests in the walls. Their nests can be rather large, and as their population grows they become problematic for pets and kids in the yard, especially as they become disturbed by normal outdoor activity.
